Tuesday 5th December 2006
I guess the biggest news this week is the increased buying power of the pound against the dollar. The latest exchange rate @ 2.20 p.m. EST is so we are very close to your GBP being worth two dollars. This is a 14 or 16 year high for the pound - depending on the news source!- so now looks like being the time to buy, if you can. Much else stays the same here, we are still expecting the "Snowbirds" from the frozen north (USA) to arrive as usual in the New Year to get the property market moving up again. Like a lot of people in the U.K. many US folks dream of retiring to Florida - 30 people a day move into Marion County alone - but there's still lots of room for you!! In case you don't come back here before the holidays, a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you, and yours. - Ralph
Monday 13th November 2006.
The state of the market.
Most analysts talk about the "Housing Bubble" bursting here in the U.S. However, most people agree that the long term prospects for Florida (and particularly North Central Florida) are good.
Prices have gone crazy around here in the last couple of years. We had an Investor led frenzy which drove prices way up. BUT - prices are still low here compared to the rest of Florida, and certainly compared to the U.K. and much of Europe.
The Investors have (mostly) gone away and prices are now settling back down.
My take is that people really do not know what anything is worth right now, which explains the disparity of prices in the market.
It does mean that now is a good time to be a buyer, in my humble opinion.
A very wise Realtor (Estate Agent) told me three years ago that "you could stick a map of this area on the wall, throw a dart at it, and wherever it lands, buy the property, your investment would be good."
I still believe that to be true, within limitations.
Ralph.
Have a great day. Please visit again, soon.
